Boston-based Ozlo expanded its footprint by acquiring Segotia, a Galway, Ireland neuroscience and neuro-audio company that has spent years listening to the brain instead of guessing at it. This was not a headline play. This was a direction call. Ozlo, founded in 2022 by former Bose engineers, has always treated sleep as a system, not a side effect. Now it is pulling neuroscience directly into the product stack, not taping it on after launch.
N.B. Nikhil Patil did not come up through pitch decks or hype cycles. He came up through firmware, hardware, and the long grind of consumer electronics that have to work at 3 a.m., not just on stage. After 20+ yrs at Bose, he and his co-founders took the Sleepbuds IP when Bose exited, rebuilt it from the inside out, and proved demand never went to sleep. Kickstarter cleared its goal in 13 minutes. Indiegogo turned into the 1 InDemand campaign of all time. 40+ countries followed. CES and TIME paid attention.
Segotia brings a different kind of gravity. Led by Culann mac Cabe, PhD in spatial audio #psychoacoustics, the team has been operating where neuroscience, #hearables, and #EEG capable systems overlap. Their work lived in labs, universities, and hospitals, not marketing decks. With this acquisition, Segotia becomes Ozlo’s dedicated neuroscience R&D hub, turning Galway into a nerve center for what comes next.
Charles Taylor, President and co-founder at Ozlo, framed the bet without fluff. Wrist and ring trackers infer sleep. In-ear systems are close enough to hear it. Deep sleep, REM, neurological and physiological biomarkers all pass through the ear with clarity other form factors struggle to reach. Ozlo is betting proximity beats approximation.
This is not about adding sensors for the sake of it. It is about trajectory. Audio that once masked noise now opens a path toward brain-level insight. A product built for rest starts pointing toward recovery, performance, and future therapeutic applications without pretending those roads are short, cheap, or guaranteed. Deal terms were not disclosed because the real currency here is capability.
