Construction has always been a game of inches, hours, and nerves. Every bid is a small gamble, every estimate a quiet promise that the math, the photos, the codes, and the calendar all agree with each other. For decades, contractors have lived inside spreadsheets and software that felt older than the jobsite trailers they worked from. XBuild came out of that friction, not as a slide deck fantasy, but as a response to the part of the job everyone dreads and everyone depends on.

Founded in San Francisco in 2022 as a spinout from Firemaps, XBuild is an AI-native estimating platform built for contractors who do not have time to babysit paperwork. Roofing, exterior insurance restoration, residential and commercial jobs where speed and accuracy decide who gets paid and who gets ignored. The pitch is simple and ruthless. Generate professional, insurance-ready estimates in minutes, not hours, using real data, real photos, real codes, and pricing that actually reflects today, not last quarter.

XBuild made it official with a $19M Series A led by N47, with Rackhouse Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz participating. Matthew Cowan of N47 joined the board, backing a product-first thesis that says the most dangerous bottleneck in construction is still the estimate. Capital is not the headline though. Momentum is. Over 15,000 projects completed. More than $250M in construction value pushed through the platform. Over 40,000 hours handed back to contractors who would rather sell, build, or sleep.

The founding team reads like a collision of jobsite grit and Silicon Valley scar tissue. Jahan Khanna, former Director of Product at Uber and co-founder of Sidecar, knows how marketplaces break and scale. Rob Moran, former Director of Engineering at Sidecar and Postmates, knows how algorithms behave when the real world refuses to cooperate. Sharuk Khanna brings over a decade of civil engineering and construction leadership, managing projects from $22.5M to $250M, where mistakes are loud and expensive.

The new Roofing Proposals product puts a sharper edge on the name XBuild. Estimates generated in under 15 minutes. Good, Better, Best pricing that homeowners can understand without a translator. E-signatures, Stripe-powered payments, and integrations with EagleView, Hover, GAF QuickScope, RoofR, and CompanyCam so the workflow actually flows. Xactimate-ready outputs mean fewer fights with adjusters and fewer late nights fixing formatting sins.

XBuild is now expanding beyond roofing into concrete, landscaping, painting, windows and doors, glass and glazing, insulation, HVAC, and plumbing. The ambition is not to sound futuristic. It is to make estimating boring, fast, and reliable at scale. When the estimate stops being the choke point, the entire business breathes differently, and the companies that get there first rarely slow down.
