January 7, 2026 hit the tape with a low frequency thump you do not ignore. Anthropic PBC, the San Francisco based builder of Claude, signed a term sheet to raise $10B at a $350B pre-money valuation. Four months earlier the company cleared a $183B post money round. That is a 1.9x jump in a single quarter, not from hype, but from enterprise pull strong enough to bend capital toward it.

Anthropic was founded in February 2021 by seven former OpenAI leaders who walked away from comfort over concern. Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei did not leave to chase fame or froth. They left to build AI that could be steered, inspected, and trusted under real world pressure. Claude is the product of that tension, designed less for applause and more for accountability.

The $10B round is being led by GIC and Coatue Management, both returning investors, with Anthropic declining comment as the deal moves toward close. The valuation did not appear out of nowhere. In November, Microsoft committed $5B and Nvidia $10B through strategic investments and compute agreements that implied the same $350B mark. January simply made the number explicit with clean equity.

Claude now operates as enterprise infrastructure, not a novelty interface. Opus 4.1 handles frontier reasoning with 200K context. Sonnet 4.5 dominates coding with a 72.5% SWE bench score. Haiku 4.5 trades elegance for speed and cost and still holds its ground. Claude Code crossed roughly $1B in ARR on its own. More than 300K business customers are live, with about 80% of revenue coming from enterprise deployments that do not tolerate failure.

The leadership bench explains the velocity. Dario Amodei as CEO. Daniela Amodei as President and governance architect. Krishna Rao as CFO mapping a break even path by 2028. Mike Krieger driving product with global scale muscle memory. Rahul Patil running engineering with infrastructure discipline. Jared Kaplan anchoring the science. This is not mythology. It is execution.
